If you’ve decided to reface the cabinets in the kitchen of your Oakville home, you may be feeling like you’re not quite sure what your options are. The material chosen for refacing cabinets doesn’t have to be the same as the sides and shelves (although it does help). You can choose almost any material you want in refacing your kitchen cabinets. Here are a few popular choices.

Wooden Cabinets

This is the classic choice, and many homes already have wood shelves and sides to their cabinets, so you can easily match it to what exists in your kitchen. The great part about choosing wood as your material is that you can stain it to match what you already have, so you won’t be able to tell the difference between the old and new parts.

There are various wood types and wood door styles to choose from that can help your kitchen look warm and inviting.

Cabinet Laminate

This is another very common choice when it comes to cabinet refacing. Laminate is usually a much more budget-friendly option as well, so if budget is a concern for you, this might be a good choice.

The downside to laminate is that if you already have wood sides – especially ones with an obvious grain to them – you may really notice the difference between the face of the cabinets and the existing parts you already have.

With laminate, you are also sometimes limited by the pre-fabricated options that are currently available. Laminate cabinets are often not available for customization, so you might find that there aren’t any finished options you like. This can be a deterrent for picking laminate as your material for your newly refaced cabinets.

Glass Front for Cupboards

Depending on the size of your kitchen, you may wish to go with cupboards that have glass doors. Choosing glass front cabinets gives your kitchen a more open feel and can create the illusion of your kitchen being bigger than it actually is. Some homeowners may wish to mix glass doors with another material so that all your dishes are not always on display. Glass is usually combined with another material as there needs to be a frame around it to support the hinges and hardware on the door.

Of course, the downside to using glass is that if you are not meticulously tidy with how you put your dishes away, everyone entering your kitchen is going to know that too!
