Don’t throw away old cabinets, here are several places you can donate/sell them in Oakville.

When you finally start the renovation of your kitchen, you will soon come to the realization that the project involves a whole lot more work than you anticipated. A kitchen renovation isn’t simply installing new cabinets, appliances, and flooring. Demolition and the disposal of your own kitchen can take time, effort, and money but it doesn’t have to.

Demolition can be time-consuming and can have you wondering where to put all those old cabinets. If you live in Oakville, throwing them out is not your only option. Living in Oakville will afford you many options when it comes time to find a new home for those old cabinets. Remember, someone else’s junk is another’s treasure. Take advantage of the options available to you throughout the Town of Oakville.

ReStore

There are many Restores throughout southern Ontario. If you live in Oakville, there are several ReStores close by. The ReStore is part of the Habitat for Humanity Charity. These stores are home to loads of used construction materials and gently used household appliances, flooring and yes, even cabinets. Donating your old kitchen cabinets to the ReStore will relieve you of the old cabinets. This donation will also benefit a charity that continues to build homes in the town of Oakville, in coordination with residents that might not otherwise ever own a home.

Consignment stores

Want to make a profit off those old cabinets to help pay for the new ones? Consignment shops are the way to go. There is always someone out there looking for a project. While you might not be in the market to refinish those old cabinets, there are surely people in Burlington, Milton or Oakville who are. After all, refinishing old cabinets is a cheaper option in the long run and for some, their only option for a kitchen renovation.

Online

Consider selling those old cabinets online. There are several Facebook pages as well as Kijiji, Craig’s list and eBay available for the sale of those old cabinets. Getting them picked up at you home is a bonus that comes from selling online.

Basement Storage

If you have no plans to use your basement for a bedroom, or for anything else in particular, consider installing your old shelves on your walls for additional storage.  You can store plenty of kitchen gadgets you rarely use in them, as well as tools, toys, or cleaning supplies.

End of the driveway

If you have tried and failed to rid yourself of those old kitchen cabinets in order to make room for the new ones, there is one more option available to you. You would be surprised how quickly things will disappear from the end of your driveway. Hauling all those cabinets to the curb might be a lot of work, but in the end, might very well be worth it. This way may not always work, especially if you live on a quiet road, or if you put out the items in the rain.

Landfill

If all else fails, a trip to the Halton landfill will be in order. This option will cost both you and the environment. Old hardware, however, such as hinges and knobs are recyclable and will cost you nothing to unload.

Knowing first where those old cabinets are going before demolition is important. Having a plan will make your project run smoothly and if you fail to find a place for those old cabinets in your Oakville home, you can find yourself moving them twice. This will cost you time and money. Consider your options before demolition to determine which is right for you.
